Media Release 14 October 2009

Chad Ford from F Beat Productions visited West Wyalong recently to work with the local youth committee on a design for the proposed Skate Park.

Chad has been responsible for the design of 13 creative and successful skate park projects in Australia and New Zealand, including Bondi Beach, Randwick, Nowra and Manly.

"My aim is to provide designs for forward thinking recreational facilities that ensure the facilities will not become outdated and obsolete to skateboarders and BMX requirements in the near and distant future" said Chad.

"The boys have come up with some fantastic ideas.  I now need to turn the ideas into an affordable design"

Council has allocated $60,000 in their budget to contribute towards the construction of this popular and much requested facility.  The youth committee now needs to raise an additional $20,000 through cash and in-kind donations and fundraising, to reach the $80,000 target.

Harley and Tyson Sekold, together with Hunter Anderson have worked closely over recent months with Bland Shire Councils', Youth Development Officer, Michele Carnegie to move this project towards realty. "Skate parks support vibrant healthy communities in the same way as other sporting facilities.  Such a facility shows youth that their community cares about meeting their health, wellbeing and entertainment needs" said Michele Carnegie.

Harley, Tyson and Hunter have demonstrated absolute dedication and commitment to the project since they started collecting signatures earlier this year.  In addition they have appeared on Prime News and presented their argument to Bland Shire Councillors during the Public Forum, as a means by which to turn the idea into reality.

Upon completion of the design, proposed locations will be offered for community consultation.
