BUDDING ACTORS APPLY NOW

Last modified: September 9, 2009 - 2:02 PM

Media Release 9 September 2009

Bland Shire Council is again offering sponsorship for two young people to attend a 4 day NIDA Acting Techniques course, at Kildare College, Wagga Wagga, Tuesday 6 October to Friday 9 October 2009.

Applicants must demonstrate a genuine enthusiasm for acting, be residents of the Bland Shire and aged between 16 and 22.

NIDA is Australia's highest regarded acting school and this opportunity offers the successful applicants the chance to expand their acting passion in a local environment.  Successful applicants last year were Jade McKay and Freya King.

"The opportunity gave me the chance to develop my skills with professional staff from NIDA who are the best in their field without having to travel to Sydney.  It also gave me the chance to spend time with other young people who are interested in performing arts" said Ms King.

This course is part of the NIDA on tour program, which provides access to expertise in acting techniques by bringing short courses to regional centres across Australia. Bland Shire Council's support of this program offers local youth the chance to experience exciting courses led by specialists from NIDA and the entertainment industry during the Spring Holidays.

The NIDA Acting Techniques course will develop skills in voice, movement, improvisation and characterisation, respond to scripts and relate to others effectively. The course will be held at Kildare Catholic College, Coleman Street, Wagga Wagga.

While sponsorship covers the cost of attending the course all meals, travel and accommodation are the responsibility of the successful applicants.  Should this present a major barrier to participation, a billeting arrangement may be possible.

Application forms are available from Bland Shire Council, West Wyalong High School, St. Mary's War Memorial School and Ungarie Central School.

For further information, contact Michele Carnegie, Youth Development Officer, Bland Shire Council either by phone Ph. 6972 2266 or in person at 6 Shire Street, West Wyalong.
