Vandalism will not be tolerated!

Last modified: July 20, 2009 - 11:53 AM

Media Release 20 July 2009

For the most part, Bland Shire residents take a lot of pride in their parks and gardens, but unfortunately there are a few people that are intent on vandalising public property and ruining the aesthetic appeal of our town.

In the latest incident, vandals have snapped off branches of newly planted trees in Barnado Park and defaced a public toilet in Ungarie. With many new trees being planted over the next few weeks as part of the Barnado Park upgrade, it is important that the community works together to stamp out vandalism.

Parks and Gardens Staff are extremely disappointed with the behaviour,

"We have a lot more trees to be planted and if this keeps occurring then there won't be a lot left to enjoy", a spokesperson for Parks and Gardens said.

The toilets at Ungarie had recently been stripped and were graffitied. Thankfully, work is still continuing on the Ungarie toilets and the graffiti can be removed. It is this behaviour that is warranting the closure of all public toilets at night.

While these incidents were only minor this time, Council is taking a zero tolerance approach to vandalism and is still offering a reward for anyone that has information about people who vandalise public areas. $1000 will be given if the information leads to a conviction.
