Wyalong/ West Wyalong Footpath

Last modified: June 29, 2009 - 9:33 AM

Media Release 26 June 2009

Bland Shire Council has begun work on the shared pathway that will connect Wyalong and West Wyalong.

Currently residents that want to walk between the two towns have to use the green corridor, which is often wet, or they must walk along the side of the road where no path is marked. Because Wyalong and West Wyalong are rural communities there is limited public transport available therefore Council aims to create opportunities for residents and visitors to walk safely around the two towns.

Alan Curran, Works Supervisor, said "The footpath will follow the current road (Neeld St) that connects Wyalong and West Wyalong. It will be a two metre wide shared pathway so walkers, skate boarders, cyclists and special mobility vehicles can utilise it."

The construction of this new path involves wider bridges over drains, the laying of hotmix (to commence 13 July) and new signage. The project is expected to be completed by the end of July.

The shared pathway will cross Neeld St at Cooinda Reserve and link up with the current footpath that meanders through Cooinda and leads to the green corridor.

A shared pathway is also being constructed from Neeld St to George Bland Avenue in Wyalong.
