West Wyalong all set to get fit!

Last modified: March 17, 2009 - 4:39 PM

Media Release 17 March 2009

It's time for West Wyalong to get on the fitness trail! With summer all but over and the winter blues about to set in, Bland Shire Council has given you a reason to stay outside and still beat the cold. While Parks and Gardens staff have been busy getting our parks beautiful, Bland Shire Council have installed fitness equipment at the Recreation ground, McCann Park, Barnado Park and Northcott St Park to further enhance the Green Corridor and benefit West Wyalong residents.

Greater Southern area Health Service provided Bland Shire Council with a grant for the fitness equipment in 2008 so the Green corridor would become an even greater health facility. The fitness equipment is stationed strategically at the above parks so the Green Corridor links the series of equipment.

The fitness equipment is easy to use and available to everyone. The first station is located at the Recreation ground and the second at McCann Park on the corner of the Newell highway and Creswell St. The third is stationed at Barnado Park on Church St and the last set of exercises can be done in the Park on Northcott St. If you are unsure of your fitness level then there is a heart check billboard at the McCann Park series. It is advised that all participants read this carefully to ensure the utmost care is taken when exercising.

The simplicity of the series is what makes it so effective. Mums and Dads can easily use the equipment while they take their kids for a play in the park or families can enjoy it together. Bland Shire Council encourages all community groups to use the equipment too. It is a great facility for sporting teams to utilise and some football codes have already started to use the equipment for fitness training. As there is no fence around the equipment and no fee, it is available anytime to anyone, therefore the opportunities are endless.

Each set of equipment is designed for a different set of exercises which means you can incorporate all the parks into a circuit. The equipment at the Recreation ground on Park St is mainly targeted toward the leg area. At McCann Park the focus is on the upper body with exercises like sit ups and push ups. Barnado Park is where you can get that six pack and work the core muscles with chin ups and the body curl and Northcott St is a mix that uses the leg hop, bench dip and bench curl. Each set of equipment is fully signed with instructions on how to use the equipment effectively. With a bit of Cardio between each set you will be seeing and more importantly feeling great health benefits. Please ensure that you warm up and stretch adequately before using the equipment and if you have any queries on your health see your doctor first.

Get out there and get that buff body ready for next summer while having fun with friends and family. Enjoy the great facilities that West Wyalong has to offer. If anyone has any queries about the new fitness equipment or where they are located please contact the Bland Shire Council on 02 6972 2266.
